The Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET), led by National Nutrition Council IX Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Nimfa Ekong, carried out the Monitoring and Evaluation of the Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro on October 17 at Sakayan Conference Room. The MELLPI Pro is the monitoring and evaluation mechanism for the implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition at the local level.
During the event, Mark Kevin Nugas, the Founder and Chair of TARA Kabataan Org, presented “The FoodLoop.” This innovative project aims to establish a household-based circular food system, deploying Gardenators, vertical barrel container gardens, and food waste composting systems. The project provides a comprehensive technology transfer for vegetable production and composting, ultimately converting food waste into valuable soil nutrients and fertilizers. The objective is to actively engage households, businesses, and institutions in food waste management and local food production.
NNC IX Nutrition Officer Elton Pelegrino presented the preliminary evaluation results, indicating that the city achieved a total score of 93.24%. This score qualifies the city to receive the Green Banner Seal of Compliance. Furthermore, the creation of a Local Bantay Asin Task Force was recommended to oversee the implementation of the ASIN Law.
The city received a grant of P54,000, which has been earmarked for both the traveling allowances and bonuses of the BNS, ensuring that their contributions are recognized and their work is supported.
The event was attended by various individuals and organizations, including Board of Director Nutritionist-Dietitian’s Association of The Philippines – ZamPen Chapter Maria Dolores Paredes, DepEd IX – Zamboanga City Schools Division Nutritionist-Dietitian SGOD – Health and Nutrition Unit Eric Bangkal, and TARA Kabataan Organization Director for Finance Cielo Saratao. Also present were City Population Management and Development Officer and concurrent City Nutrition Action Officer Jesielyn Puno, CPDC Gay Palagtiosa and City Nutrition Program Coordinator Nujaima Abdurahman.
