The Department of Education Isabela City Schools Division Office held the moving-up ceremony for elementary and junior high school completers of its Alternative Learning System (ALS), July 20, at Isabela East Central Elementary School.

Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Julieto Fernandez and Curriculum and Instruction Division Chief Henry Tura led the simple rites to recognize individuals who were able to pass the assessment given by the agency.

As defined by DepEd, ALS is a “parallel learning system in the Philippines that provides opportunities for out-of-school youth and adult (OSYA) learners to develop basic and functional literacy skills, and to access equivalent pathways to complete basic education.”

Further, “it aims to empower OSYA learners to continue learning in a manner, time and place suitable to their preference and circumstances, and for them to achieve their goals of improving their quality of life and becoming productive contributors to society.”

As such the City Government of Isabela through the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman has espoused a proactive partnership with relevant agencies to ensure that the benefits of education are accessible to all Isabeleños, most especially the “vulnerable members of the community.”

This year’s ceremony had for its theme: “K to 12 Graduates: Molded through a Resilient Educational Foundation.” (Words by M.Guerrero/Photos by KJ Evardo, CIO)
