Recognizing the role of the city’s madaris in shaping the youth toward a path of peace and tolerance, Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman together with Basilan District 1 Board Member Amin Hataman graced the solidarity night of Madrasah Al-Manara Islamic Youth Camp, June 06, at the Sumagdang campus of the said school.
Addressing the campers in their bonfire event, Mayor Turabin-Hataman talked about the importance of being living examples of Islamic values of generosity, compassion and peace to their young peers and to the community as a way to become good examples of a Muslim Isabeleño.
Running from June 06-08, the Islamic Youth Camp is supported by the City Local Madaris Development Office (CLMDO) led by Dr. Nujum Datu Indal. The CLMDO was created in part by the current administration’s embrace of Isabela City as “culturally diverse and proud” and channeling such diversity as a means to achieve a happy and dignified life for all.
Also joining the activity was the HAPIsabela Mobile Library of the City Information Office which played Islamic educational videos. This participation was facilitated by CIO Mendry-Ann Lim through LIBRO Focal Darcy Madjalis and other CIO support staff. One-half of the city’s mascots, Isa also made an appearance much to the delight of the participants. (Words by M. Guerrero/Photos by KJ Evardo, CIO).
