Young writers from 18 high schools in Isabela City competed in the third edition of the “My Sakayan Story: Essay Writing Contest”, April 27 at the Querexeta Formation Center.
Held as a featured event of the Sakayan Festival and the 22nd Cityhood Anniversary of Isabela, the contest asked participants to express in a thousand-word essay their understanding of the theme “Many Colors, One Rainbow.”
Vice Mayor Jhul Kifli Salliman who graced the opening remarked that the Sakayan Festival is for all, highlighting it is also for young students to learn from. Meanwhile, DepEd Isabela City EPS Renie Eguerra, representing SDS Dr. Julieto Fernandez, emphasized how the activity elevates the students’ interest in the culture and history of Isabela City. Prior to the contest proper, Marion Guerrero of the City Information Office oriented the participants about the rigors of essay-writing and this year’s contest prompt.
For his part, City Tourism Officer Claudio Ramos II thanked all the participants and the Department of Education-Isabela City for the continued support for the competition, which is now on its third year. Winners of the said tilt will be awarded during the Sakayan Festival closing on May 05, where the first place will bring home PHP10,000 and a plaque of recognition. (Words by M.
