Isabela City Qualifies for DOF-ADB Project

In line with the celebration of the 2023 National Women’s Month, the City Government of Isabela under the administration of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman hosted a Buntis Congress for the 150 teen moms from the city’s 45 barangays, March 01 at Joveth’s Isabela.

Program Coordinator on Adolescence Health Imelda Cañete gave a talk on raising and having healthy young ones and teaching teen moms about sexual education, particularly the responsibility that comes with it. This was followed by Program Coordinator on Family Planning Ma. Victoria Lintag speaking on Family Planning, where she explained the length of the menstrual cycle and the usage of birth control methods as well as demonstrated on how to use a condom.

CPMDO Jesielyn Puno talked about responsible parenthood; CHO dentist Dr. Abdulmanar Saliddin on pregnancy/breastfeeding in the context of Dental Health Care, and City Health Officer Health Education and Promotion Officer Bernadita Hontucan on Safe Motherhood emphasizing the importance of pre-natal check-up to help prevent complications and inform women about important steps they can take to protect their infant and ensure a healthy pregnancy.

Meanwhile, Councilor Karel Annjaiza Sakkalahul who is the chair of the SP committees on women, children and family affairs, and gender and development assisted by Medical Coordinator on Maternal and Child Health Program Dr. Rehab Hayre, led the distribution of maternal kits to the participants —a service first started by the City of Isabela in the entire region.

The City Health Office also conducted an HIV and syphilis testing for pregnant moms, pre-natal consultation with Dr. Hayre and the City Population Management and Development Office conducted an info-dissemination and distributed birth control contraceptives.

In her closing remarks, CHO Supervising Nurse Maribel Arapoc reminded participants to apply what they had learned and do family planning to plan ahead of time for their children and themselves.
