No less than Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman welcomed members of the Zamboanga Chong Hua Lion Dance Troupe, January 23, for the traditional lion dance at Isabela City Hall. The performance was a way to usher the Lunar New Year of the Water Rabbit, in solidarity with the Filipino-Chinese community of Isabela City and the Philippines.
The lion dance is one of the hallmark traditions during the observance of Chinese New Year. It is performed to bring prosperity and good luck to the host for the upcoming year. In Chinese culture, the lion symbolizes power, wisdom, and superiority. The lion dance is also a way to create a festive atmosphere and bring joy to spectators during this auspicious event.
