The Local Government Unit of Isabela City took centerstage in the penultimate day of the Zamboanga Peninsula Exposition (ZAMPEX), October 08 at the KCC Mall de Zamboanga. Dubbed as “Sakayan: Waves and Weaves of a City’s Promise” and under the artistic direction of City Tourism Officer Claudio Ramos II, the two-hour spectacle featured a song-and-dance presentation that showcased the city’s rich history and cultural diversity ably rendered by young talented Isabeleño artists.
In a nod to the aims of ZAMPEX, Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer Jaime Juanito Rivera made a pitch for Isabela City as an investment destination. The same was echoed by Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman during her remarks.
“It is an honor and great pride to be back in the Zamboanga Peninsula Exposition. We are able truly to showcase who we are in Isabela, who we are in Basilan. Nakakubli sa iba’t ibang masamang pangyayari ang tunay na yaman at ganda ng Isabela at Basilan. Pero sa nakalipas na tatlong taon ay unti-unti po kaming nakabangon dahil na rin sa tulong ninyo. Dahil naniwala kayo sa amin, buo ang tiwala namin sa aming kakayanan” said Mayor Turabin-Hataman, striking a grateful and hopeful tone as she underscored the gains made by the city in the areas of peace and economic growth.
Among those in attendance during the entire show were Department of Tourism (DOT) Undersecretary Myra Paz Abubakar, Basilan Lone District Representive Mujiv Hataman, DOT IX Regional Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez, Department of Trade (DTI) and Industry IX Regional Director Engr. Al Zamir Lipae and former DOT Undersecretary Art Boncato. Joining them were DTI IX Assistant Regional Director Maridel Dangal and DTI Provincial Directors Grace Aduca, Flora Miraflor, Marlon Alabata and Estrella Roda.
To lend their support, also in the audience were Basilan District 1 Board Member Amin Hataman, Vice Mayor Jhul Kifli Salliman and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, namely Councilors Yusop Abubakar, Jeromy Casas, Abner Rodriguez, and Karel Annjaiza Sakkalahul. CTO Ramos and LEDIPO Rivera were accompanied by their fellow department heads City Administrator and concurrent City Legal Officer Atty. Adzlan Imran, PESO Manager Aradelria Belleng and City Information Officer Mendry-Ann Lim. Several of the city’s barangay chairpersons were also there.
After two years of absence, the Zamboanga Peninsula Exposition resumed as an in-person event. Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry, this year’s ZAMPEX featured booths from some of the region’s local government units, national government agencies and MSMEs that displayed and sold a variety of local products and delicacies. ZAMPEX 2022 coincided with Zamboanga City’s annual Hermosa Festival. (Words by M. Guerrero/Photos by K. Galos, CIO)
