Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman met with Ms. Monabelle Blanco-Delgado of West Metro Medical Center, September 02, to discuss its assistance program for cancer patients.
According to Ms. Delgado, Cancer Center Manager of West Metro Medical Center (the first private cancer treatment center in Western Mindanao), each year 153,000 (0.1%) of Filipinos are diagnosed with cancer. In Western Mindanao there are 5,742 cases of cancer patients each year, 50% (2,871) of that cases require radiation therapy for more effective treatment and better patient outcomes. However, due to low health literacy and high cost of diagnosis treatment, only 420 patients in Western Mindanao do radiation therapy per year.
Thus, West Metro Medical Center presented an assistance package for possible partnership with the Local Government of Isabela City. This aims to make cancer treatments more affordable and accessible to patients.
