The City of Isabela de Basilan led by Mayor Sitti Djalia A. Turabin-Hataman formally ushered the Holy Month of Ramadhan during its Ramadhan Lights Switch On Ceremony –a tradition that begun when the Mayor Hataman assumed office in 2019.
The event which began with the switching on of the lights that deck Isabela City Hall façade, April 01, was led by Vice Mayor Jhul Kifli L. Salliman who welcomed the gathered audience and spoke about how the practice is significant to the present administration’s push on interfaith dialog and harmony. Serving as keynote speaker was Bangsamoro Member of Parliament Dr. Alzad T. Sattar who expounded on the physical, social, and spiritual benefits of fasting during Ramadhan –a practice that MP Sattar extolled was of significant value across the religions of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.
Gracing the occasion were some members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Councilors Khaleedsher M. Asarul, Alan Ritchie Luis R. Biel, Jashim I. Tiplani, and Karel Anjaiza R. Sakkalahul. Several city government department heads were also in attendance, led by City Administrator Joel L. Zanoria.
Besides the City Hall, areas also festooned by the City Tourism Office and the City General Services Office were Plaza Isabela and JW Strong Boulevard.
Meanwhile, the Grand Mufti of the Bangsamoro, Sheikh Abu Huraira Udasan, announced that the first day of fasting will be on April 03, Sunday.
