A Committee on Women meeting led by Councilor Karel Sakkalahul was held on February 15, Tuesday afternoon at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall, this city.
This was attended by 45 presidents of the KALIPI women’s organization. The goal of KALIPI is to empower Isabeleñas through community activities and the development of livelihood practices.
Discussed during the gathering were the proposed activities of the said women group for the upcoming Women’s Month celebration which was followed by a brief orientation on the salient points of the Safe Spaces or Bawal Bastos Ordinance which was explained by City Councilor Sakkalahul, the sponsor of the said ordinance.
According to Councilor Sakalahul, once approved on its third reading, Isabela City will be the first to pass such ordinance in the entire Mindanao. The said local legislation aims to penalize all forms of sexual harassment in streets and public spaces.
Also in attendance were Vice Mayor Jhul Kifli Salliman, CSWDO OIC Nor-aina Asmara, IBLLA President Sheila Pagarigan and City GAD Focal and concurrent City Information Officer Mendry-Ann Lim.
