March 22, 2021 | JW Strong Boulevard, ISABELA CITY, Basilan – 1st HAPISABELA WOMEN’S TRADE FAIR.
The City Government of Isabela under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia A. Turabin-Hataman and Vice Mayor Jhul-Kifli Salliman successfully launched its first ever HAPIsabela Women’s Trade Fair on Monday afternoon, March 22, 2021 at James Walter Strong Boulevard, Isabela City de Basilan.
The HAPISABELA WOMEN’S TRADE FAIR shall run from March 22-26 as part of this year’s National Women’s Month Celebration and is the brainchild of Councilor Karel Annjaiza Sakkalahul Chair of the Committee on Women and Children.
This historic event was graced by no less than DoT Asec. Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar, Mayor Dadah and Vice Mayor Kifli, Councilor Karel Annajaiza R. Sakallahul, along with Councilor Ritchie Biel, Councilor Arjiemar Ajibon, Councilor Jashim Tiplani, SK Federation President Haizer Salain, and NCIP Representative Abdulkuddus Salihin together with various City Department Heads were also present to witness the said event. Atty. Rosebell Sanson, Provincial Legal Officer represented Provincial Governor Jim Salliman.
The Women’s Trade Fair, first of its kind, aims to showcase the local products and diverse culture of the Happy City of Isabela de Basilan and focuses on empowering women on their small and medium enterprises that may create important economic opportunities. It also helps to bring the community together especially the women to be more confident despite the COVID-19 pandemic challenges.
Aside from creating an avenue for the display and sales of local products of Isabela City’s women associations, this event also showcases a trade expo of the Province’s Indigenous textiles such as the famous Yakan Tennun weaving craft as well as a photo exhibit of the late Councilor Nida P. Dans, who was known for championing women’s rights and empowerment in the city.
