THE HALAL INSPECTION MONITORING committee headed by Mayor Sitti Djalia A. Turabin-Hataman convened last Thursday, December 3, 2020 to discuss the drafting of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the recently passed Halal Ordinance No. 20-597.
Halal ordinance was authored by Councilor Hon. Yusop I. Abubakar and was approved on October 14, 2020. This ordinance aims to further establish harmonious relationship between Christians and Muslims in Isabela City, by promoting, protecting and respecting the Muslim religious belief, customs and tradition especially in the sacred concept of “halal” to ensure that the foods they take and products they use are spiritually pure and clean for consumption.
During the Halal Inspection Monitoring meeting, Mayor Hataman stressed that the city should focus more on consumer protection. She also recognized the presence of the ASEAN market in the area thus also emphasized on the preparation for halal production industry.
Joining Mayor Hataman were Vice Mayor Jhul Kifli L. Salliman, Councilor Candu Muarip, City Agricuturist Eugene Strong, City Legal Officer Atty. Adz Imran, City Veterinarian Dr. Erwin Roy Jalao, City Health Officer CHO Dr. Mohrein Ismael VI, BPLD Head Albert Porticos and other concerned stakeholders.
