September 15, 2020 | The City Government of Isabela through the City Information Office in partnership with Philippine Information Agency conducted a one (1) day Barangay Information Officers  (BIOs)Orientation and Forum held at the 4th floor, Infirmary building, Sunrise Barangay this City.

The activity aimed at enhancing capacity and capability of Barangay Information Officers as agents of change in bringing in accurate and credible imformation and become efficient watchdogs in the community.

City Health Officer Dr. Mohrein Ismael VI shares updated IATF Health Protocols and answers frequently asked questions posed by attending BIOs.

Gathered were 43 appointed/designated Barangay Information Officers in Isabela City. During the activity, Rene V. Carbayas, Assistant Regional Director of Philippine Information Agency Region IX discussed on the roles and responsibilities of BIOs along with Barangay Information system, Information Network and salient points of the Freedom of Information.  Risk Communication measures were also shared by Ms. Bernardita Hontucan , Nurse IV of Isabela City Health Office while expounded IATF protocols were discussed by City Health Officer Dr. Mohrein Ismael VI.

Moreover, Mendry Ann A. Lim, City Information Officer introduced the  City’s efforts and initiatives in its intensified information campaign against COVID-19 through the production of COVID IEC materials posted and distributed in all 45 barangays in Isabela City. Lim also expressed the need of a two way communication system for the establishment of an efficient and effective communication network in the city. She furthered that as part of the City’s top priority agenda of transparency, participatory, effective and efficient governance, the need for a pitching community is vital to be able to address communication issues and concerns especially during this time of pandemic.

City Mayor Sitti Djalia A. Turabin Hataman on the otherhand, applauded Barangay Information Officers in their positive response and outlook in the orientation forum. She looks forward for a sound and more effective BIOs in bringing in credible, factual and timely information for the community. Participants also shared their insights and learning during the evaluation of the said activity.
