June 3, 2020 |With the increasing risks brought about by COVID-19 pandemic, Isabeleños donate blood to buffer the needs and demands of blood around the city.

In line with this, a voluntary blood-letting activity was conducted at the 4th floor, Infirmary Building, this city on June 3, 2020.

The activity was conducted in coordination with different government agencies such as the Basilan General Hospital (BGH), Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and the City Health Office- Isabela City. This is in lieu of its campaign to promote voluntary blood donation among healthy individuals under RA 7719 otherwise known as the act promoting voluntary blood donation, providing for an adequate supply of safe blood, regulating blood banks, and providing penalties for violation thereof.

Merissa Bienviaje, Medical Technologist- Clinical Laboratory BGH said the bloodletting aims to supply the need for blood especially with the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

Bienviaje also encourages and invites those who are healthy to donate in mass blood donation activities and strengthen all efforts against infection control measures.

Blood donors that responded to the invitation include representatives from the Department of Education, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, donors from the Religious sector and some civilians from this city.

Authorities look forward to invite and encourage more blood donors in the coming weeks. They hope to see more blood donors most especially on June 11 during the celebration of World Blood Donors day.
